Student Member Benefits
As designers of tomorrow, The Society considers its support of Students as one of its key roles in investing for the future.
Educators, Professionals, Corporations and Students are all invited to offer suggestions on how best to help students in their learning. Each student chapter appoints a representative to interact with the Society Student Chapter Department.
Student Member Benefits Student Chapter events – Student chapters organise events and activities which enhance the relationship between students, the design profession and industry.
Events include but are not limited to:
- Career days
- Visits and excursions to design practices and manufacturers
- Visits to trade fairs and showrooms
- Industry lectures
- Workshops
- Networking events
- Portfolio reviews
Student members can attend SBID student chapter events at any university or college.
CPD events - Student members are welcome to attend any SBID CPD events at discounted rates. Limited student places are available.
Student and Professionals Networking Evenings - These evenings aim to improve the dialogue between students and other SBID member categories enabling SBID to keep up-to-date with the views and issues of student designers while building networking opportunities with actual designers who practice in business today.
Students Careers Day - SBID professional members provide an introduction to the many career options open to interior design students.
SBID Membership Card
Industry fair/exhibition tickets – Complimentary and discounted tickets offered to trade fairs, exhibitions and events. Limited student places are available.
Student Advancement - Upon graduation the student member is `gifted` a year of membership at `affiliate member` status, this year if working contributes to one of the two years of work experience, thereafter the second year would then be purchased at normal rates (currently £195) and the third year (after whatever criteria set by education committee) would elevate the practitioner to full Member and this would be a route to growth of the Society in both professional and educational terms
Student Competitions – Local, National and International Competitions (see ICCC competition)
Student Exhibitions – Each student chapter will have its exhibition of student work promoted nationally and locally through the regions, this will raise the profile of both the educational establishment as well as the students graduating. SBID feels that it is important that all efforts are made to launch a your career through the showcase of exhibition of work.
Trade and Consumer Magazine discounts SBID has negotiated discounted rates for a number of Trade and Consumer magazines.
Mentorship program - Shadowing SBID professional members with a positive and negative feedback to aid your ability in your future career.
Internship Assistance program - Assistance with student internships within SBID.
