In 2009 SBID began campaigning at the House of Commons to protect Intellectual Property for Interior Design, highlighting the problem of non-payment for creative arts and skills.
Protecting and promoting ownership of the interior design industry is a founding core value and benefit of membership. Mishcon De Reya and SBID are collaborating, lobbying and leading in this field.
Robin Gibb CBE as SBID Ambassador of intellectual property rights promotes our message: 'The fundamental right that the inventor of an idea is the owner of that idea for profit and sale... like every other tangible product. When others take an idea that is the livelihood of the creator, it is property theft and it damages the livelihood, investment and prosperity of business and the economy.'

SBID launched a campaign to create a charging standard for interior design services, lobbying government to support a proposal to abandon 'Free Design' by registered design professionals. SBID consults with both Government and Bank of England and quarterly issues a questionnaire from the Bank of England for selected members.

A campaign to promote sustainability as a fundamental responsibility of SBID members runs through everything we do, sustainability exists not just in products but in the use of interiors therefore the design of an SBID registered interior space will always have a sustainable process, product or awareness in selection and specification.
