Work Placements
How do I find an internship?
Finding an internship is simple through The Society.
Begin by contacting the Membership Chairman by sending your CV with a photo attached (this is for quick identity purposes only) and allow one full terms notice before you would like to start your internship.
Your CV should list your key skills and your main weaknesses; this will identify a sector and provider match. The information will help the SBID committee source the best position to bring you direction and skill where you most need it while also providing you with an opportunity within a commercial environment to promote your ability and skills in the areas in which you are most talented.
You should determine the types of opportunities that best serve you. You may choose existing internships or request a specific member and the education and membership standing committee will explore the possibility of creating a customised internship position in a specific business, sector or region.
The committees will then review your CV, help you tailor it to fit a more specific opportunity and send it to any applicable members.
Members will then set up interviews with you directly.
We encourage you to apply to multiple companies and designers, to ensure you get one of your top choices and to obtain valuable interviewing experience.
Members are required (by 2011) to provide internships, degree course students are required to obtain work experience. The Society aims to support the sharing of information while supporting both the next generation of interior design practitioners as well as keeping new ideas and technology in the forefront of design practitioners, manufacturers and suppliers.
